Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 16: Jammu Province Peoples Forum (JPPF) an amalgam of social, commercial, and other organizations, celebrated "175th Foundation/ Raising Day" of Jammu and Kashmir by organizing a programme at Dogra Sadar Sabha, Dogra Hall, Jammu.
A large number of people from different organizations participated in the event.
Addressing the gathering, Paviter Singh said that since inception of the erstwhile J&K state no one bothered to celebrate this historic day of importance, we are astonished to see that the public has almost forgotten that when and how this beautiful state came into existence, even the Government also never bothered to organize a function on this historic day for the reasons best known to them. JPPF started celebrating this day since last six years and trying to bring awareness among the masses about the formation of Jammu and Kashmir State. He further added that 16 March is a historic and very important day in the history of Jammu and Kashmir when Maharaja Gulab Singh on 16 March 1846 purchased Kashmir from British under Amritsar Treaty after paying Rs 75 lakhs and became the first/founder Maharaja of entire Jammu and Kashmir state, he further clarified that on 17 June 1822 Gulab Singh coronated as Raja of Jammu by Maharaja Ranjit Singh at Jia Pota Ghat Akhnoor, Jammu, but on 16 March 1846 he became Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir and this beautiful erstwhile state came into existence,
Team JPPF requested one and all especially educational institutions and social organizations to celebrate the Raising Day every year with full enthusiasm and educate the coming generations about the history of the state. Team JPPF on this auspicious day demand that the Lt Governor of J&K should immediately intervene to instruct the concerned to start teaching Dogra history in schools.
