DIG orders enquiry against SDPO Ramnagar, locals call off protest
'Police inaction against bovine smugglers'

JAMMU, Mar 17: Acting upon the complaints of Police inaction against the bovine smugglers through Ramnagar in Udhampur district, DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range today ordered enquiry against SDPO Ramnagar.
Additional SP Udhampur has been directed to probe the allegations against the SDPO Ramnagar and submit his report within a fortnight. "On the basis of various verbal complaints raised by the people of Ramnagar during protest held at Ramnagar on 16/17 March 2021 and written representation from Vice-Chairperson DDC Udhampur, a fact-finding enquiry is hereby initiated into the various complaints against the SDPO Ramnagar and entrusted to ASP Udhampur. The enquiry officer shall submit his finding within a fortnight for further necessary action", reads the enquiry order vide no 01/Clt/2021, dated 17/03/2021 issued by Sujit Kumar DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range.
Meanwhile, in another order the SSP Udhmapur reinstated four Police officials suspended for acting tough against the bovine smugglers. "Sgct. Mohammad Ashraf no 246/U, PID No. EXJ-98676 of Police station Ramnagar who was placed under suspension vide this office order no 92 of 2021 dated 11/03/2021 is hereby re-instated into service with immediate effect pending enquiry into his conduct", copy of order issued by SSP Udhampur, Sargun Shukla read.
The order further reads, "In addition to above said official and other SPOs namely Ex.man Amrik Singh, SPO Chain Singh and SPO Rattan Chand presently attached at DPL Udhampur shall report to Police Station Ramnagar."
The locals in support of suspended/attached policemen were protesting at Ramnagar for the last two days. "We were protesting against Police authorities, as the policemen who were acting bovine smugglers, were suspended and attached by the department'', said a local leader, while talking to media persons at Ramangar.
Meanwhile, DIG Sujit Kumar along with SSP Sargun Shukla today met the protesters, who sat on Dharna yesterday. "Enquiry against SPDO Ramnagar has been ordered on the basis of complaints received by the department", DIG Sujit Kumar said, adding that on the demands of agitating people, suspended police officials have been reinstated while attached SPOs were sent to Police Station Ramangar at their previous place of posting.
The SDPO Ramnagar could not be contacted for his comment despite repeated calls by this scribe.
