SHO, SDPO 'steal' Rs 9 lakh from car of Executive Engineer in a rural area of Jammu

JAMMU, Mar 17: A Station House Officer (SHO) and Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) posted in a rural area of Jammu District have allegedly stolen over Rs nine lakh from one Executive Engineer (XEn), posted in one of the hilly districts of Jammu Province, which he was carrying with him in a car while travelling to Jammu from his work place.
If sources are to be believed, the XEn who is going to superannuate in next few months was carrying Rs 14 lakh with him in a car and a Station House Officer (SHO) received information that the XEn is carrying illegal money with him he (SHO) raised special naka at deserted place falling in his jurisdiction.
As the vehicle reached the naka point, police party signaled the car to stop and during the search of the car police found Rs 14 lakh. "Cops found Rs 14 lakh from the car which the XEn was travelling", said a source adding that the whole amount was taken into custody.
Later, the XEn and his driver were taken to police station along with the cash and SHO threatened the XEn if he mentioned about the whole amount he will be booked by Income Tax Department and anti-graft bodies, said sources. Sources said the SHO took over Rs 9 lakh from him and wrote to the Income Tax Department about recovery of Rs 4 lakh and nine thousand from his possession and the amount was distributed with SDPO.
When contacted IGP Jammu, Mukesh Singh, said that the matter would be inquired and action will be taken against the accused.
