Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 23: Decision of National Conference president and former chief minister Dr Farooq Abdullah to attend 40th foundation day of the Panthers Party fueled rumours of the formation of alternative front in Jammu province.
Before Dr Abdullah attended Panthers Party’s foundation day, earlier it was Prof Bhim Singh, founder of the Panthers Party who had attended informally meeting of the Peoples’ Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) at former’s residence.
Reliable sources told The Early Times that some Jammu based National Conference leaders were already in touch with Panthers Party leaders to form grand alliance in Jammu to take on BJP.
“Some political and social groups have been mulling over forming Gupkar Alliance like group in Jammu province to aggressive pursue pro-Jammu agenda to expose BJP”, sources said and added that Dr Abdullah’s attending Panthers Party function was seen as a step towards this directions.
Earlier in 1990s Bhim Singh and Dr Farooq Abdullah had jointly organized some meetings in different parts of J&K to restore democracy.
On November 8, 2020, Bhim Singh had attended meeting of Gupkar Alliance for which he was removed from the post of patron of the Panthers Party. But his removal was revoked within two days.
According to a handout issued by Panthers Party, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Member Parliament of National Conference in Lok Sabha & former Chief Minister of J&K was the Chief Guest when the Panthers Party held a first session to pay tributes to national martyrs.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah in his one-honour striking speech congratulated the Panthers Party for observing this day in memory of the three great martyrs. Dr. Farooq Abdullah also conveyed to the Panthers Party that all secular, nationalist and humanist political parties and the leadership shall walk together, fight together for justice, equity, humanity, non-alignment and world peace.
