| Water level increasing, no immediate threat of flood in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Mar 24: Though the water level in river Jehlum and its tributaries besides other water bodies is increasing due to moderate to heavy rain during the past three days, there is no immediate threat of flood, official said.
However, the water level in Jehlum will witness further increase during the next 24 hours before starting receding following improvement in the weather conditions.
Officials said that water level in all water bodies, including river Jehlum , passing through Srinagar and three other districts of Anantnag before going into Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK), has witnessed increase due to rain during the past three days. It will take another 24 hours to enter the rain water into water bodies from higher reaches and forests which could result in more increase in water level.
In river Jehlum the water level this morning was 10.17 feet which was still about 11 feet below danger mark at Sangam in south Kashmir.
The water level at Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar was 11.87 feet which was 6 feet below danger mark while at down stream Asham in north Kashmir it was 7.63 feet over six feet below danger mark.
They said at Vishow Nallah Khudwarni in south Kashmir the water level was 6.23 meters less than a meter below danger mark.
At Rambiyara Nallah against 5.7 meter danger mark, the water level was one meter while Lidder was flowing at 0.45 meter against danger mark of 1.65 meter at Batkoot.
They said Sindh nallah in central Kashmir district of Ganderbal, the water level was 1.49 meters against 3.35 meter danger mark. |
