Private Schools Again
3/24/2021 11:59:55 PM
Private schools are once again in the news, this time for asking the students to purchase, books and uniforms from selected shops.
It’s not for the first time that the private schools have done something for which these institutions need to be pulled up. The managements of these schools keep on issuing one diktat or another quite often. So it’s nothing new for them.
During the COVID times, despite schools remaining closed these institutions created hue and cry and made the parents pay the tuition fee through their nose.
One fails to understand why these schools don’t adhere to the directions that are passed by the government. Are these institutions above the law?
In the erstwhile J&K State, private schools were given a freehand as their owners enjoyed cordial relations with the people in power. But after J&K’s transition into a union territory, rules have changed and these schools will have to follow all the rules if they want to function. Days of dictating terms to parents are over. Either they have to fall in line or call it a day.
The managements of these schools should understand that people from all walks of life have suffered due to COVID-19 and they are grappling to overcome the losses they have suffered during the past one year. They should make schooling easy for children rather than making it difficult. Providing education is not all about earning money, it’s about building the new generation and future leaders.
Since the day schools have reopened in Jammu region parents on many occasions have staged protests against the arbitrary policies of these schools. These schools are trying to push the parents to wall by squeezing them. It’s unfortunate that their policy revolves around minting more and more money.
What’s more surprising that these schools are asking the parents what to buy, like lamination rolls, pencil packets and number of copies. The items which can be purchased at nominal rates in the open market are available at very high rates.
Parents allege that these schools get commissions. Irony is that the parents can’t even ask them why they are charging as per their whims and wishes. The Education Departments should take a note of the diktats of these schools and pull up these institutions for blackmailing the parents.
