| Retd bureaucrats in Kashmir under scanner for ‘princely assets’ | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 28: The government have started a crackdown on the retired bureaucrats of Kashmir valley, who are accused of having amassed property worth crores and disproportionate to their known sources of income.
Sources said the said drive is already underway. The sources said the special sleuths of various agencies including the Anti Corruption Bureau are probing the assets of the former officials owning “big properties.”
Sources said in the first phase it has been found that of the many former officials under scanner one of them has amassed hundreds of kanals of land including that in Dachigam locality and that he has “huge property outside Kashmir as well.”
Sources said government agencies discovered that the former official has atleast three bungalows in the summer capital.
“How can one official amass so much of property without corruption,” said one senior official on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said the raids have send shivers down the spines of many of the former officials in Kashmir who are infamous for having grabbed huge assets during their tenure in the government.
“Most of these officials were working like the commission agents of the dynasts who had been giving a share of the loot to the corrupt forces in the then administration. The government must expose such faces before the common masses and their property details should be made public,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
It is pertinent to mention that while zero tolerance to corruption is the mantra of the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, who has the vision of transparent governance in Jammu and Kashmir, the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is also committed to this cause.
Sources said more raids would be carried out in the coming days as the government is keen to give “exemplary punishment to those who looted Kashmir.”
