Early Times Report
jammu, Mar 31: While as Srinagar-the summer capital of the Union Territory (UT) of J&K recorded single-day highest 159 positive cases of this year on Wednesday, authorities are ready to conduct 'Tulip' festival from April 3.
It was all due to a surge in the positive cases that Srinagar was declared as 'Orange' district on Tuesday as per fresh guidelines issued by the authorities yet administration is going to conduct the festival.
Today J&K recorded this year's single-day highest 373 positive cases out of which 159 cases were reported from Srinagar district only. Out of these 159 cases, 44 were travellers which is a clear indication that people coming from outside J&K are helping in the spread of deadly virus.
Shockingly a 70-year-old tourist from Maharashtra died of Covid-19 at a hospital here. The elderly tourist along with the family was in Kashmir for the last few days. The tourist was admitted to the Chest Disease Hospital Srinagar on March 30 after complaining of breathlessness and showing other Covid-19 related symptoms.
Confirming the death, sources said that the patient from Pune, Maharashtra was suffering from "severe covid-19 Pneumonia. The victim was referred from SMHS hospital and was admitted to CD hospital".
Sources said that the patient along with his son had surprisingly tested negative at Srinagar Airport on their arrival to the Kashmir Valley a few days ago. The elderly person's son has also been admitted and is presently under treatment at a hospital here.
Meanwhile authorities have announced that Kashmir will host a six-day 'Tulip Festival' to celebrate the arrival of spring, promote tourism, and familiarise visitors with the valley's rich culture and tradition, an official said on Sunday.
The festival will be inaugurated on April 3. All arrangements are in place for the festival.
According to authorities the festival is being organised to celebrate the arrival of the spring season and to promote the tourism sector in the Valley.
