COVID-19: Situation worsening in Srinagar, Baramulla, Jammu districts
J&K records this year’s highest single-day spike

Jammu, Apr 4: With 573 fresh Corona positive cases in the last 24 hours, the Union Territory of J&K witnessed the highest single-day spike of the year so far. Situation is going from bad to worse in Srinagar, Baramulla, Jammu and Budgam districts of the UT.
These four districts have contributed nearly 75 percent of the total positive cases across the UT on Sunday.
As per official data available with The Early Times, Srinagar district has recorded 75.48 percent increase in positive cases during the last four days. On April 1, today active positive cases in Srinagar district were 157 and the number has jumped to 208 on Sunday evening.
Almost the same is the situation in Jammu district where active positive cases have jumped 66.30 percent during the last four days. On April 1, there were only 61 positive cases but today this number has reached 92.
While out of total 10 districts in Jammu province, only Jammu district is witnessing a surge in positive cases while in Kashmir Valley, Srinagar, Baramulla and Badgam have registered a hike in the number of positive patients.

Schools to remain shut till Apr 18
Administration on Sunday announced that all schools for students up to Class 9 will remain closed for two weeks from April 5 in view of the surge in Corona cases.
Physical classes for students from classes 10 to 12 will also be suspended for a week, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s office said in a tweet on Sunday.
“In view of rising trend in #COVID19 cases in J&K & likelihood of young children getting infected & transmitting infection in large numbers, All classes up to & including Class 9 in schools will be closed for 2 weeks in all schools beginning on Monday, 5 April till 18 April, 21 in J&K,” Sinha''s office tweeted.
Schools for students of classes 10, 11 and 12 will also be closed for a week, it said.
“Further, all gatherings for social and customary functions will be restricted to 200 only and after following due COVID SOPs”, it added.
positive cases are in Kashmir Valley, which is nearly 77 percent of the total active cases across the UT. In Jammu province out total 922 active cases, alone Jammu district has 661 positive cases, which are nearly 72 percent of the total positive cases across this province.
As per official handout 122 from of the fresh cases were reported from Jammu Division and 451 from Kashmir Valley on Sunday.
Also three people died due to the virus, one from Jammu Division and two from the Valley, taking the overall fatality count to 2008— 741 in Jammu and1267 in Kashmir.
Providing district wise details, the officials bulletin said that Srinagar reported 208 cases, Baramulla 84, Budgam 41, Pulwama 10, Kupwara 16, Anantnag 17, Bandipora 18, Ganderbal 8, Kulgam 37, Shopian 12, Jammu 92, Udhampur 7, Rajouri 2, Doda 3, Kathua 11, Samba 4, Poonch 1 and Ramban 2. No positive case was reported from Kishtwar and Reasi districts of Jammu province. Moreover 189 more COVID-19 patients have recovered—39 from Jammu division and 150 from Kashmir Valley.
There are 3955 active cases—922 in Jammu and 3033 in Kashmir while 133012 people have recovered so far.
