‘Influential’ teachers prefer COVID duties over teaching
4/4/2021 11:45:26 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 4: Not interested in fulfilling their primary responsibility to teach students, several 'influential' teachers in Kathua district are reportedly using various means to get themselves posted at Lakhnapur for COVID-19 duties, sources told Early Times.
They said that a few months ago, when COVID-19 was at its peak and schools were closed, some of these blue-eyed teachers had their duties cancelled, when they were posted at Lakhanpur, but now they are using influence to get the same duty on one or other pretext. The district administration Kathua had deputed teachers from various educational zones of Kathua, Lakhanpur, Barnoti and Hirangar to discharge COVID-19 related duties last year. They were asked to assist the medical staff in testing, maintain records of truckers and other administrative works. “But many of them had got their duties cancelled citing various excuses such as medical reasons, family issues and other problems.
Sources claimed that many influential teachers are “enjoying attachment” at Deputy Commissioner's Office Kathua for the last many years. “This is in total violation of the norms,” they added.
Sources said that teachers posted in rural areas such as Basohli, Billawar, Bani have been getting themselves posted at Lakhanpur instead of going to their respective schools, in which they were posted. “These teachers have their residences in Kathua but postings in rural and hilly areas, so they are using their influence to get themselves posted at Lakhanpur by using the services of some teachers attached at Chief Education Office or in various offices housed inside premises of DC office complex”, sources said, adding that even these teachers were ready to “grease the palms” of higher-ups for getting themselves posted at Lakhanpur.
“In a month a teacher posted at Lakhanur for Corona duty has to work only for 15 days and for next 15 days he enjoys vacations. Going to schools in hilly areas and teaching exhausts them so Lakhanpur is best suited for these teachers, who are not interested in teaching”, sources said.
