JAMMU, Apr 14: Funds under Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY) being misappropriated have opened a Pandora’s Box. One such case has come to fore in Reasi district.
According to the details available with Early Times Rs 2 lakhs under PMAY were released in favour of a beneficiary to construct a one room house at Ward No. 10 Goodar Khalsa village tehsil Pouni falling under Panchayat Bambla. “Despite funds being released the house was not constructed,” said a source.
He said according to the PMAY norms funds for such houses are released in installments. “The first installment is released for the construction of plinth, second for raising four walls and third for putting a slab. At every stage photographs are taken and submitted to the department,” the source added. He said that this entire process is supervised by Sarpanch, Panch, Village Level Worker and GRS, finally the funds are released by the Block Development Officer.
Soon after this matter came to fore the District Development Council (DDC) chairman Kewal Krishan shot a letter to the Assistant Development Commissioner Reasi urging him to get the matter probed.
When Early Times contacted ADC Reasi, he said that the matter has been brought into his notice and if the allegations are found correct the beneficiary will be directed to refund the money. “I have asked the BDO to probe the matter and submit the report.”
However, locals said that the FIR should be registered and the role of Panch, Sarpanch, VLW and GRS should be investigated. “This one case has come to fore. Who knows how many such misappropriations’ have taken place till date,” the locals added.
