No social distancing: Violation of COVID guidelines goes unabated at Thandi Khui

GURDAS KUMAR

EARLY TIMES REPORT

VIJAYPUR, May 4: At a time when Corona is breaking records of every previous day across the country, unwillingness of the masses to obey COVID guidelines is adding fuel to the spread of COVID 2.0.
Similar is the scenario at Thandi Khui area, where a designated testing centre has been established by the authorities, as the people are not maintaining mandatory social distancing.
The centre has been established at Radha Swami Ashram Thandi Khui, Vijaypur and mandatory covid testing for everyone coming from adjoining districts is being done there. Unfortunately, people despite being aware of the daily fatalities are not following the guidelines. Administration is also seen ineffective to ensure implementation of COVID guidelines that too at Government run testing centres.
Non-seriousness on the part of police and the civil administration who fail to ensure strict adherence of the guidelines makes it nearly impossible to defeat Corona, said Avinash Choudhary, Chairman Border Welfare.
He said that despite the presence of police on spot, open violations of the SOPs are unfortunate. “There is Corona curfew in many districts of J&K to break the chain. Markets, schools, colleges are closed and public gatherings are banned. While police are registering cases if someone is found disobeying Corona curfew then why the same actions are not being taken at testing centre,” said Congress leader Babbal Gupta.
Corporator Rajan Sharma said that it seems that the administration itself is not willing to implement Covid guidelines strictly. “Certainly, Corona will spread if timely and required actions by the administration are not taken. I appeal the district administration to take strict action against the violators,” he added.
SDM Vijaypur when contacted said that police have been deployed at testing centres, but people are not cooperating.
