SRINAGAR, May 7: More than 100 retired employees of Jammu & Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) are dejected and distressed since they have not been paid the retirement benefits so far even though they have retired around two years back. A group of these retired employees while sharing views with Early Times said that at the time of retirement they were not given retirement benefits like leave salary and gratuity. They said that they are facing huge problems as their financial health is not upto the mark.
The retired employees have made a fervent appeal to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene in the matter and ensure that the retirement benefits are given to them without any further delay. They said the administration should keep their promise in this regard so that they are absolved of the mental agony. “At the time of retirement an employee is given benefits like gratuity and leave salary but that was not the case with us. We were not paid a single penny at the time of retirement and we continue to yearn for the same. Our daily chores of life have been affected due to the financial problems but there is nobody to listen to us,” said the retired employees.
Most of these employees superannuated in 2019 while as the others retired in 2020. They are waiting for the day when the Lieutenant Governor led administration keeps its promise of giving them the retirement benefits. They have been moving from pillar to post but the solution has eluded them up to this moment of time. “In the last board meeting it was decided that 50 percent of the leave salary and gratuity would be paid by April 10 this year but that was not to be. Although the administration allocated a hefty amount of 15 crores to the Corporation for this purpose but the same was spent on salary of employees and other things,” said the retired employees. The retired employees appealed the Lieutenant Governor to enquire into the matter and see where the money meant as retirement benefits has gone. They said that Manoj Sinha should take personal interest in the matter so that the retirement benefits are given to them before the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr.
