Kishtwar faces Remdesivir injection crises, other life saving drugs

Kishtwar, May 7: The tall claims of the government regarding availability of essential drugs at District hospitals falls flat as the people suffering with acute COVID 19 are facing difficulties in getting access to the life saving drugs like remdesivir injections.
As per the details available with Early Times, at least three critically ill COVID patients in Kishtwar District were in need of remdesivir injections, but unfortunately same was neither available at District Hospital Kishtwar nor in the market anywhere. It was after over night hectic efforts, one family manage to get 3 remdesivir injections from Government Medical College Doda for which the family had to rush it’s own private vehicle to collect the same from Doda Medical College.
Speaking to Early Times, the victims family inform that they are being subjected to sleepless nights due to non availability of essential life saving drugs used in cure of COVID 19 added that they are ready to spent out of their own pockets for purchasing the drugs— but unfortunately these drugs are not available from open market due to government regulations.
A senior official in the health department shows inability about the availability of life saving drugs like remdesivir injections at District hospital added that only today District Hospital Kishtwar get 30 remdesivir injections from the stock of Director Health Services Jammu.
“Remdesivir injections are out of stock — we desperately need them so that we can save the lives of people” said Umar Mir- volunteer at NGO Ababeel.
Mir said that they are trying their best to arrange medicines, oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators for patients at home added that situation is grim and people need to understand.
Firdous Bagban, volunteer at Hilal Health Care Society— an NGO inform that they spreading awareness about the masses about the deadly impacts of the virus. He said that the volunteers of Hilal Health Care Society are busy in spraying and sanitisation of the homes and market. He said that they also provide oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators and medicines for the patients and called for joint efforts in tackling the crises.
“There is need of joint efforts- we must work together in these testing times” Bagban said and called upon the people to come forward and donate for the cause.
He urged upon the government to provide all life saving drugs at District hospital Kishtwar including remdesivir injections so that same could be used during emergency.
