EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, May 10: BJP state secretary and former MLC Vikram Randhawa, along with other Jammu stone crushers today held a protest outside the Geology and Mining Department for illegal mining from the Tawi River.
Randhawa had made serious allegations against the department during a press conference on May 3 and even threatened to commit self-immolation outside the office of the department. Randhawa said that this struggle will continue until the government conducts a CBI inquiry into the entire business.
He arrived outside the District Mining Office (DMO) at around 11 am on Monday as per his announced schedule and shouted slogans against the DMO Ankur Sachdeva.
Randhawa said that in the last two and a half years, all the raw material used in ring road, Jammu-Akhnoor road construction and flyover was mined from Tawi river but nothing went in the name of revenue in the state exchequer. He said that this is a scam of Rs 300 to 400 crores, the truth of which must be revealed to the public.
Randhawa also appealed to the High Court to strongly uphold the ban on mining from the Tawi river. He said that this ban has led to the loss of livelihood of thousands of people and till the mining is restored, their struggle will go on.
