COVID knocks at doors of Kishtwar district’s remote villages

KISHTWAR, May 10: With each passing day, the COVID-19 situation keeps on worsening in Kishtwar district with more fresh cases reported from remote villages of the district forcing the administration to impose strict lockdown in those areas by declaring those villages as micro-containment zones.
As per the details available with Early Times, DC Kishtwar today notified fresh micro-containment zones and this time it was remote villages of Chatroo Sub-Division which were put under strict lockdown.
As per the order issued by Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, in village Sigdi of Tehsil Mughal Maidan, the containment zone was declared from the house of Santoshi Devi, Lower Gwarian to the house of Babloo Kumar of Uppar Gwarian of village Sigdi with a population of over 300.
DC Kishtwar also directed CMO Kishtwar and BMO Chatroo to depute teams for conducting mass sampling of the people residing in the area, adding that in case anyone refuses, the FIR should be lodged against those persons.
Speaking to Early Times, a senior administrative officer informed that as many as 15 COVID positive cases were reported from the two villages in Sigdi which is around 35 kms from Kishtwar following which District Administration Kishtwar declared the two villages as containment zones.
He said that the people who were tested positive for COVID had attended a marriage ceremony at Palmar village which is around 40 kms away from Sigdi village, adding that efforts are being made to carry out 100 percent testing in the area since there is potential of outbreak of the disease if 100 percent testing is not conducted at this stage.
Earlier several areas in Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas were declared as micro-containment zones viz Hidyal, DPL, Kuleed, Wasser, Zelna, Boop Nagar and parts of Tund village from where several COVID positive cases were reported.
