PHC Roohi Morh exposes Health Department’s preparation in COVID pandemic
Completed 10 years ago, hospital not made functional

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, May 10: At a time when Lt Governor Manoj Sinha is personally inspecting health institutions of J&K to ensure better care for CORONA patients and eradicate COVID pandemic, the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Roohi Morh with only minimum resources available has once again exposed the failure of Health Department. Though completed 10 years ago, the ill-fated PHC has not been made functional yet, which can contribute a lot in the ongoing war against Corona.
Early Time on 5th July 2020 had carried an exclusive report on the abandoned hospital, after which the Public Works (R&B) Department completed remaining works, but the Health Department turned deaf ear and ignored its job.
Today, Early Times team again visited PHC, Roohi Morh and found the building in the same condition as it was a year ago. A handsome amount of Rs 4.72 crore was spent on building, which proved to be a wasteful expenditure, in the time of this emergency.
Sanchit Raina, a social activist who raised the issue, said that he has taken up the issue with Advisor to LG, Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education Department; Principal Secretary to LG, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, but no actions in this regard has been taken yet.
“I have learnt that the DRDO is setting up a hospital at Bhagwati Nagar area in Jammu city to overcome the shortage of beds at CD Hospital Jammu. I suggest the LG Administration instead of wasting time on new buildings as it will take more time, you should immediately start the existing hospitals in Jammu city and its peripheries”, Sanchit said.
He said that he also contacted Director Health Services Jammu, Dr Renu Sharma but unfortunately instead of acting upon my complaint she used abusive and unparliamentary language. “Not only PHC Roohi Morh, but there are some other hospital buildings, which are not in use after their completion”, he added.
“It seems the department is busy only fixing those failures which have been identified by the LG, not doing anything on its own. I appeal, LG to take action against the incompetent officers of Health and Medical Education Department”, he added.
