Early Times Report

Jammu, May 10: Even as entire nation is facing crises in the wake of second wave of Covid19 in the country, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha is showing the way to lead through his unmistakable dynamism and dedication towards the Union Territory.
While many of the VIPs across the country have been avoiding personal visit to Covid hospitals, Sinha ensured visiting such facilities since day one into office.
The Early Times research team analysed a random day in Sinha’s life and found out some interestingly things about his commitment towards Jammu and Kashmir. On May 7, he visited Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, CD Hospital, GMC Jammu to take first hand appraisal of Covid infrastructure and facilities here. During his visits, the Lt Governor enquired about number of patients being treated in the hospitals, patients discharged after recovery, availability of oxygen support beds.
The Lt Governor, while inspecting the functionality of Oxygen Generation Plants in the Hospitals, directed for effective rationalization of available resources to cater to the requirements of the patients.
The Lt Governor directed the hospitals to ensure that best possible care is given to the patients through regular rounds of HoDs and senior doctors in the wards. He also emphasized on strict compliance of the hospital referral policy and triage in the hospitals.
“Doctors must have personal interaction with the patients and their attendants to ensure better treatment”, maintained the Lt Governor.
Directions were also passed for the strict compliance of duty rosters at all Hospitals.
On the same day, the LG discussed Covid preparedness and containment measures with the GOC-in-C, Northern Command, Lieutenant General Y K Joshi and senior Army officials from Northern and Western Commands, here at Raj Bhavan.
While appreciating and lauding the ongoing efforts of the Army in providing necessary support in form of Covid care hospitals, the Lt Governor asked the senior Army officials of Northern and Western Commands to explore the possibility of enhancing the capacity at 100-bedded Covid care facilities to 200 beds with oxygen support. The Lt Governor further asked the officials of Northern Command to collaborate their efforts with Western Command to augment the 100 beds capacity of Covid-19 centre at Army Public School Domana, Jammu to 200 beds.
The senior Army officials apprised the Lt Governor about the efforts put up by the Army in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir to combat the pandemic including Western Command’s 100-bedded Covid care centre at Army Public School Domana in Jammu; 250-bedded Covid hospital in Kashmir's Rangreth area jointly operationalized by Chinar Corps and Civil Administration.
Amid the crises, the Lieutenant Governor is equally focused on the developmental projects.
On the same May 7, the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha released a Compendium, giving a detailed briefing about the 1100 projects of public importance worth Rs 1555.16 crore completed by Jammu & Kashmir Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation (JKIDFC).
The Lt Governor emphasized the need for expediting completion of projects while simultaneously observing necessary precautions related to Covid appropriate behavior.
The Lt Governor also laid special emphasis on regular monitoring of projects for ensuring their speedy execution, besides maintaining transparency in the execution of works by bringing out the information regarding development works undertaken by the Corporation in public domain.
It is pertinent to mention that Manoj Sinha took oath as the LG in 2020 when the Covid19 first wave was at its peak and almost everyone in the top brass looked hesitant to visit to Covid hospitals.
Even the officials would avoid such inspections.
But only a day after assuming the charge, Sinha became the first VIP to visit a Covid hospital in Srinagar, drawing appreciation from various quarters for having risked his life for the welfare of the people.
He has been working relentlessly since. And a random day in his life explains his commitment!
