Early Times Report

Anantnag, May 11: The hospitals set up exclusively for COVID-19 infected patients in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district lack basic facilities, Early Times learnt on Tuesday.
Last year, the authorities in Anantnag district converted Trauma Hospital Bijbehara into COVID-19 dedicated facility; however the Health Department has failed to augment the facilities.
Well placed sources within the department revealed that X-ray plant and C T scan facility wasn’t available in the hospital because of which the coronavirus infected patients were being shifted to non-covid hospitals for mandatory testing. “We don’t have X-ray and C T scan machines here and because of which we have to necessarily shift patients either to GMC Anantnag or SDH Bijbehara,” an officer said. For CT scan patients are being shifted to Government Medical College Anantnag and if a patient requires X-ray test then patients are shifted to Sub-District Hospital Bijbehara, he added.
This hospital has 110 beds exclusively for coronavirus infected patients including pregnant ladies. Recently, 1000 LMP Oxygen Plant was also made functional besides it the hospital is equipped with oxygen cylinders and concentrators.
NTPHC Akura Mattan, another covid dedicated hospital, also lacks basic facilities. This center even doesn’t have a laboratory for conducting basic tests of patients.
Chief Medical Officer Anantnag Dr Mukhtar Ahmad admitted that X-ray plant and C T scan facility wasn’t available at Trauma Hospital Bijbehara, however claimed that an X-ray plant was being installed.
“I think they might have installed the X-ray plant,” he told Early Times over Phone.
On being asked why similar facilities weren’t being made available for patients at NTPHC Akura Mattan, the officer said that this facility was for those patients who only require low flow oxygen and have mild symptoms.
