EARLY TIMES REPORT

RS PURA, May 13: District Development Council (DDC) Member, Taranjit Singh Tony has expressed serious concern over the increasing number of fresh Covid positive cases in the rural areas of Jammu region and demanded more strict enforcement of SOPs and restrictions in such areas. In a handout issued to media here today, while appreciating the efforts initiated by the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha for ongoing war against Covid-19 pandemic, the DDC member said that keeping in view the deteriorating situation during the second wave of this pandemic there is a dire need for the administration not only to strictly enforce strict restrictions but also announce additional measures in the direction of containing the fast spread of this highly contagious virus. He said that it is really unfortunate that despite Corona curfew people are unnecessarily coming out from their houses especially in the containment zones, thus giving an open invitation to the dreadful virus. Tony also alleged that Sub Divisional Hospital (SDH) RS Pura is unable to cater to the pressing demand for medical facilities in crisis situation.
He said that presently the SDH is equipped with only 10 ventilators that too not properly functional and in such a situation there is every apprehension of patients’ conditions becoming critical and going out of control. Therefore he demanded that at least 100 beds along with the proportional oxygen supply be provided at SDH RS Pura at the earliest.
DDC member said that in view of the third wave approaching near as claimed by experts, there is a dire need to remain fully prepared in anticipation to deal with the situation besides initiating efforts to avoid the situation from further deterioration. He appealed to the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to direct the enforcement agencies to act tough against the people violating lockdown, moving out without passes without any genuine urgency. He also sought special focus of the LG led administration on rural healthcare infrastructure which he alleged is far from satisfactory to cater to the needs of the population in the respective rural areas.
