Extension of timing at Narwal Mandi makes no difference, congestion continues
5/13/2021 11:51:53 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, May 13: Amid district administration’s efforts to decongest Fruit and Vegetable Market (Mandi) Narwal by enhancing relaxation timing, a huge rush of people and violation of COVID guidelines were openly witnessed today.
A large gathering of vendors (both sellers and buyers), majority of whom were seen without wearing face masks while they also failed to maintain social distancing. It is pertinent to mention here that two days back, District Magistrate, Jammu after observing ground situation of Narwal Mandi, has extended timing for opening of vegetables and fruits.
However, yesterday a team of the Horticulture Planning and Marketing Department (HP&MD) remained present for implementation of the instructions issued by Chairman/ District Disaster Management Authority Jammu.
But unfortunately, a day after the team visited Narwal Mandi, no one bothered to obey standing COVID SOPs. Strategy formed yesterday by the department completely fizzled out today.
“The administration should take action against the violators in Narwal Mandi,” said a vegetable wholesaler. “Moreover, Police and duty magistrate should be deployed; otherwise Narwal Mandi would be a major source for spreading Coronavirus. The stakeholders both sellers and buyers, should voluntarily cooperate with the administration,” he added.
