Eid celebrated amid strict lockdown in Kishtwar

KISHTWAR, May 13: Amid spike in COVID-19 cases and a strict lockdown, the Eid ul Fitr celebrations in Kishtwar district remained a low key affair. Senior officials including Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Ashok Kumar Sharma and SSP Kishtwar, Shafqat Butt led at front to ensure the implementation of Corona Curfew in the district.
As per the details available with Early Times, the district administration deployed security forces in strength since 4 am in the morning to ensure that no mass gathering could take place inside mosques for Eid prayers while at the same time Eid Namaz was offered symbolically at some mosques.
Meanwhile, the official details available with Early Times revealed that more than 300 COVID positive cases were reported from different parts of the district in the last four days.
As per the details, Palmar area of the district continue to be the hub of the virus with over 50 cases reported from there in last few days after the virus reportedly spread to a marriage infecting nearly 100 persons in different villages of the district.
The data also revealed that several families in bulk reported positive for the virus as more people are approaching the hospital for COVID test.
As many as 11 positive cases were today reported from Tund area in the outskirts of Kishtwar town while the interior of Kishtwar town with narrow lanes are becoming challenging task for the administration where people were seen roaming freely while shops also remained open.
“We are trying our best but people too need to understand the gravity of the situation," said a senior official requesting the people to cooperate with the administration.
