Landslides, shooting stones hit a village in Uri, 23 families evacuated

Srinagar, May 19: As many as 23 families were evacuated to safety after landslides and shooting stones hit a village in the border town of Uri in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, triggered by incessant rain during the last 24 hours. Official sources said that landslides and shooting stones hit village Chadya in Zamoorpatan in Uri following incessant rain during the last 24 hours. “Keep the safety of villagers in mind, an operation was immediately launched and 23 families were shifted to a safer place,” they said.
Meanwhile, villages said that in the last couple of years many residential houses were damaged due to shooting stones and landslides in the area. “We urge the administration to take necessary steps to stop shooting stones and landslides in the area,” they added.
