BARAMULLA, May 19: At least twenty three families were shifted to safer places in Zamborpatan village of Uri after landslide and shooting stones hit the Chadya ward no. 4 of Zamoorpatan Uri.
Sources while quoting the Sarpanch Noor Hussain Shah of Zamoorpatan said, from yesterday night landslide and shooting stones created havoc in the area, after which the locals and administration shifted 23 families to nearby areas.
“In past few years so many houses were partially damaged due to these shooting stones and landslides mostly during wet weather, '' he said.
The Sarpanch has appealed to the Governor administration and DC Baramulla to take some immediate steps to stop the shooting stones otherwise it can take human, animal lives anytime.
Sources said that, after landsliding and shooting stones that took place in Zamoorapaten, the district administration quickly swung into action and shifted these families to the other safer places and provided shelter and food to the poor families. After land sliding, the debris was cleared from the roads and some local vehicles were allowed to move to their respective destinations, said sources.
They further said that, due to soil erosion at various places, there remains a chance of land sliding, and it is all because of that forests have been chopped off by timber smugglers in the nearby forests. However the local residents from the same area said that there looms a threat always whenever weather gets changed, and many times in the past some families that are living close to slide prone areas were shifted without any delay and to get rid of this the authorities should take up matters with the concerned agencies.
