Rural areas witnessing unprecedented surge of COVID cases: Manjit Singh | Samba Hospitals lack facilities to fight against covid | | Early Times Report
Vijaypur, May 20: Provincial President Jammu Manjit Singh today said there was an unprecedented surge of COVID19 cases and it has posed serious threat to the lives of people in the village. The situation is dangerous in rural areas and unnoticed deaths of COVID cases were on rise in absence of proper medical care from the Health Dept, said former Minister Manjit Singh in his statement to the press. Manjit Singh said “As the Health Dept. fails to reach out to the villagers, the people fear going to Govt Hospitals they are told to get their COVID19 test. Less awareness among the rural people has led to large numbers of deaths and increase in COVID-19 cases.” “Many people prefer treatment at local level and they take medicines from the chemist shops on illness/symptoms instead of getting themselves COVID-19. This practice must be checked by the Drugs Dept. and medicine should be given by the chemists only after taking prescription of doctors from the customers with regard to the covid positive patients to avoid its misuse,” added Manjit Singh. He said that the Govt. should provide basic facilities at the hospital so that they handle situations at their Primary Health Centres and Sub Divisional Hospitals. “The claims of the so-called leaders of a political party have been exposed and they have remained unable to upgrade the existing hospital infrastructure. Many people have gone outside J&K in Punjab to get treatment for COVID19 ignoring the hospitals in Jammu because people have lost their trust in Govt hospitals,” he said. He urged the Govt. to monitor the health care system in rural areas and administration has failed on ground which has caused many COVID deaths. “There is no attempt by the health department or administration to improve the situation. The improvement is only visible on press statements. We do not have high flow oxygen and adequate ventilators in hospitals of Samba District. No one is monitoring the situation which has taken an alarming turn,” added Manjit Singh. He said that “The villages have been left to the mercy of almighty. The Health Dept. should have deployed a team of paramedics and doctors in the villages to spread awareness among the people. The health infrastructure has collapsed which is responsible for the loss of lives.” He said that “The administration should depute teams of Health Dept. in villages so that the villagers can be sampled for COVID19. If the COVID is not contained timely, it would turn into disaster for the rural belt.” He said that the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha should intervene and direct the Health Dept. to constitute teams and depute them in the rural belt to check the COVID spread. “Poor people have no knowledge about the gravity of the situation because the Health Dept. and administration have failed to work in coordination with each to reach out the rural population in the border and kandi area,” he added. |
