Early Times Report

Jammu, May 20: The separatists in Kashmir have once again given a strong hint that they won’t transgress their limits and vitiate peace anymore in the Valley. On the death anniversary of his father, Hurriyat hawk, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has issued no strike call.
The statement issued by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq declared the prevalent pandemic as the reason for no strike call this year. Last year also, Mirwaiz had issued no strike call on this day.
Mirwaiz Mohammed Farooq, Umar Farooq’s father, was assassinated by militants on May 21, 1990 at his residence in Srinagar. On May 21, 2002, Abdul Ghani Lone, father of People’s Conference leader Sajjad Lone, was gunned down by Pakistan-backed militants at the Iddgah in old city where he had gone to pay tributes to Farooq on his death anniversary. The assassinations came after Mirwaiz Mohammed Farooq made overtures of peace and Abdul Gani Lone expressed willingness to participate in the electoral process
In 2019, ahead of the abrogation of Article 370, when Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the Valley, the separatists including Geelani for the first time since the eruption of militancy in 1990, issued no strike call on the Home Minister’s visit. Post Abrogation of Article 370, separatists issued no strike or chalo calls.
