Health services in shambles in rural areas: Tony
5/26/2021 11:13:07 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, May 26: DDC Member Suchetgarh Taranjit Singh Tony on Wednesday said that in contrast to what is being projected with fanfare, the health services in rural areas are currently running on crutches with people suffering to the hilt.
In a statement issued to media, the DDC member said that government has not learnt a lesson from the devastating second wave and instead of getting ready for the inevitable third wave it is busy in self-praise which can be suicidal for all. Tony said that despite posting of senior doctors in rural pockets the people out there are suffering because the specialist doctors are reluctant to leave the urban centres.
Giving a specific example of Primary Health Centre Sai falling in Suchetgarh catering to more than 27 villages in the area, he said that aforesaid PHC is marred with lack of facilities as it is bereft of even the mere basic necessary equipments and staff.
He added that the government should pay heed to this exigency and should take immediate steps to make things work or else get ready for more trouble.
The DDC member demanded that looking into habit of doctors playing truancy every third day, there is dire need to introduce biometric attendance in the PHC to make them accountable or at least ensure their presence. He said that Director Health Services has a big responsibility on her shoulders and it is in no way justified that she should leave everything on the concerned BMO and never take time to assess the ground reality.
Tony urged the Director HS to visit the aforesaid health facility regularly or set a mechanism to counter check the working out there. He said that it is unfortunate that despite procuring all the equipment the dearth of technical staff is hampering healthcare services in this rural PHC catering to the needs of a vast population. He said that the government has the responsibility to make the system transparent and accountable but in the case of PHC Sai there is a complete mystery, how doctors and other staff play hide and seek with patients with no one in administration getting even the slightest clue about the situation on ground?
