Webinar on ‘right to life and personal Liberty’ under project ‘access to justice’ held in Samba

SAMBA, May 28: Under the Aegis of J&K Legal Services Authority and under the supervision and guidance of Sonia Gupta, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (Principal & District Sessions Judge), Samba, the DLSA Samba today organized a Webinar on the topic “Right to Life and Personal Liberty” under the project “Access to Justice” (Phase-2).
The Webinar was aimed to make the people aware of the fundamental right enshrined in the Article 21 of the Constitution of India.
The welcome address was delivered by Sonia Gupta, Chairman, DLSA (Principal District & Sessions Judge), Samba. She elucidated various activities and programmes being conducted by DLSA Samba, under the aegis of Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, Executive Chairman, J&K State Legal Services Authority and guidance of M.K. Sharma, Member Secretary, J&K State Legal Services Authority.
While highlighting that Article 21 of the Indian Constitution provides for the fundamental right to life and liberty, she stated that the right to life is not just about the right to survive. It also entails being able to live a complete life of dignity and meaning.
Neena Mishra, Advocate, High Court of J&K and Rashi Verma, Addl. Munsiff, Samba were the resource persons in the programme.
Advocate Neena Mishra gave an outline of the concept of right to life and the interpretations of this right by the Supreme Court of India over the years.
Rashi Verma highlighted the concept of personal liberty and gave an overview of the exceptions to this right and explained how the Courts have broadened the interpretation of this right.
The resource persons interacted with the participants and replied their queries.
Besides the Chairman DLSA, Samba, the Webinar was attended by Students of Legal Literacy Clubs, Dogra Law College, PLVs, Lawyers, Teachers, Prosecuting Officers, etc.
The proceedings of the webinar were conducted by Slahuddin Ahmed, Sub Judge/Secretary, DLSA, Samba.
