Grim scenario: Causalities continue to mount at GMC Jammu
5/28/2021 11:56:20 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, May 28: Tall claims made after meetings and follow-up meetings by authorities have fallen flat as COVID related casualties continue to mount in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu.
During the past one month, authorities have been claiming that effective steps were taken to control the death toll in GMC Jammu but figures contradict their assertions.
On Friday out of 56 deaths reported in J&K, eight mortalities were reported from GMC Jammu which is a warning signal because despite repeated assurances there is no let-up in deaths in this institute. On Thursday nine deaths were reported in GMC Jammu. The GMC is witnessing an increasing trend in death toll since April 25 when five deaths were reported. Since April 25, there has been no relief in GMC where patients from all the 10 districts of Jammu province are getting ‘advanced’ treatment. Authorities are claiming that there is no shortage of oxygen in GMC-Jammu but they have failed to explain any reason for unabated deaths of helpless poor patients, who could not afford treatment in private hospitals due to their financial conditions.
Recently some family members of deceased COVID patients alleged that there is no adequate flow of oxygen in the COVID dedicated wards.
It is believed that helmsmen are keeping Lieutenant Governor’s office in dark. “Instead of admitting their negligence these people are presenting a wrong picture”, sources said and added that Jammu will have to pay a heavy price for their misdeeds.
However, Principal Government Medical College hospital, Jammu Dr Shashi Sudan Sharma has now circulated a fresh roster directing the senior faculty members including Head of the departments to conduct regular rounds of dedicated COVID wards in small groups to monitor the patients admitted there.
As per the roster every team mentioned in the roster shall take a joint round of the designated wards twice a day and ensure the log entries /submission of details regarding new admissions, discharges, deaths, complications, etc in their concerned wards in a prescribed format daily in the control room between 8.00 pm to 11.00 p.m.
