Kishtwar hospital lacks canteen facility; patients, attendants suffer

Kishtwar, May 31: The patients and their attendants at District Hospital Kishtwar are suffering due to non availability of canteen facilities at the hospital that caters more than 2.50 lakh population of Kishtwar District along with huge chunk of population from Gundow area of Doda District and Pangi Sub Division of Himachal Pradesh.
Speaking to Early Times, the patients at District Hospital Kishtwar inform that due to non availability of canteen facility at Kishtwar Hospital, they have to travel to far off distance from the hospital to collect food and other items for the patients adding that during the ongoing lockdown when hotels and restaurants are closed, the patients and the attendants are suffering most for the want of food or even for a cup of tea.
“Non availability of canteen within hospital complex is really a big— patients are unnecessarily suffering— it was NGOs like Ababeel and Hilal Health Care that are providing food to the patients and attendants in hospital” said an attendant with a patient. He said that even during the holy month of Ramzan, the NGOs served the food to the people at the time of Iftyari and Sehri.
The people said that the administration must take measures for establishment of canteen at District Hospital Kishtwar so that the patients and their attendants do not suffer at the time when COVID is at our door steps. “It was not only patients and their attendants— Hospital staff and doctors also face lot of problems due to non availability of canteen” said hospital employee wishing anonymity.
Senior official in the health department told Early Times that the opening of canteen facility at District Hospital Kishtwar is under process but due to COVID 19 the tendering process for the same got delayed. He said that additional 100 bedded hospital is under construction at District Hospital Kishtwar where the canteen facility will also come up.
He acknowledged that due to non availability of canteen facility at Hospital, the patients, their attendants, doctors and paramedical staff are suffering and assured that the issue will be addressed as soon as possible.
