| IAF fire fighters on job to douse forest blaze in Udhampur | | |

Jammu, May 31: A devastating fire broke out on Monday in the woods of Ramnagar hills in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir. However, the Indian Air Force along with firefighters, teams of forest protection force, police and army are on job to douse the flames.
Police said that the Indian Air Force joined a fire fighting operation to control a massive forest fire in Ghordi block of Udhampur district.
The fire broke out on Sunday night in Daya Dhar forests and engulfed a vast area, they said, adding that hundreds of trees have been damaged in the fire. They said that civilian volunteers from nearby villages have also joined the teams in the fire fighting operation. The Daya Dhar Forests is home to various species of wild animals and birds.
The IAF deployed its choppers with a bucket carrying thousands of litres of water early Monday morning to help douse the fire, responding to the call of Udhampur Deputy Commissioner Indu Kanwal Chib. The officials said the cause of the fire was not known immediately but it is believed that the blaze started after the dry grass caught fire due to rising mercury.
