“World No Tobacco Day” observed all over
Various social, political organizations and Ngo join hands to aware masses against ill effects of smoking under the ensuing COVID-19 pandemic

Jammu, May 31: The World No Tobacco Day is observed on May 31 every year to highlight the threat associated with the use of tobacco. This annual campaign is a chance to raise awareness to help reduce use of Tobacco and protect the health of the people.
On this day, several campaigns, events, and activities are organised to educate people about the bad effects of tobacco on health. The use of tobacco is a risk factor for many respiratory infections and increases the severity of respiratory diseases. Smokers are likely to be more vulnerable to COVID-19 as possibly contaminated cigarettes increase the possibility of transmission of virus from hand to mouth.
Government Degree College Neeli Nallah, Udhampur under the guidance of principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Satinder Kaur organized an Intra-College Online Lecture on the theme “Relevance and Importance of Fundamental Duties in India” under Shikshit Bharat.
The speaker of the event was Shashank Dattatray Kulkarni (Ph.D Scholar, Central University, Jammu). He, in his lecture, talked about the constitution of India and gave a detail understanding of fundamental rights.
Prof. (Dr.) Satinder Kaur, stressed that the purpose of the event was to make students understand about the values and principles enshrined in the constitution of India.
The online Intra-College poster making competition was also organized on the occasion of “World No Tobacco Day”-31st May 2021. The theme of the poster making competition was “Say No to Tobacco, Yes to Life”.
More than 50 students have participated in the event and spread a message through their posters that people should say no to smoking and use of tobacco as they are harming the health of number of people. Out of all, posters of Isha Sharma, Manisha Devi, Shali Devi, Sakshi Devi and Manju Bala were selected as best posters.
The organizers of the event were Prof. Swati Dutt, Dr. Radha Rani, Dr. Tsering Dorjey and Mohd. Jahangir Khan. Dr. Satinder Kaur, Principal, appreciated the efforts of the students of the college.
NSS unit of GDC, Marh organized Inter college Essay writing and Poster making Competition under the Supervision and guidance of Prof. Aekta Gupta Principal of the college regarding “World No Tobacco Day”.
The Theme of Event was “Commit To Quit”. NSS officer Satish Kumar, Shallu Gupta, Asha Kumari and Sachin Kumar organized the activities in which students of various college participated. In the Poster making competition Ayush kumar of GDC Marh, Riya Verma Govt. MAM PG College Jammu, Kajal of GDC Marh, Faiz Ahmed of GDC Kalakote were adjudged best posters along with consolation best entries as Priya Devi of GDC Marh, Pranshi Verma, Gagandeep Kour of GDC Marh, Rahila Kosar of GDC Thannamandi.
In Essay writing Competition students namely Muskan Chib of GDC, Marh, Riya Verma of Govt. MAM PG College Jammu, Ashish Sharma of GDC, Marh, Anjali Sharma of GDC Marheen, Shivani Mottan of GDC Marh were adjudged best essay writing in English scripts.
Whereas in Hindi scripts Shuvam Mankotia of GDC Billawar, Sakshi Devi of GDC Marheen and Anmol Bali secured 1st,2nd and 3rd position respectively.
Some of students also participated in Dogri scripts Essay writing in which Meenakshi Devi of GDC Jourian, Rohit Kumar and Kajal Kumari of GDC Marh secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively. The panel of experts for the event consisted of Anita Sharma Convener, Madhvi Prasher, Hans Raj and Sachin Kumar.
