Kishtwar, June 2: After getting dejected from repeated denials by the District Administration Kishtwar with regard to opening of prestigious Sinthan top road connecting Kishtwar District with Srinagar via South Kashmir Anantnag District following which the prominent Social and Political Activist from Marwah Ghulam Rasool Magrey filled a Public Interest Litigation at Jammu and Kashmir High Court which is scheduled to be heard on Thursday.
In the PIL the petitioner stated that there is huge population residing in Tehsil Marwah and Wadwan areas of District Kishtwar adding that the government constructed a road called Sinthan Kishtwar Road to facilitate for the people of Marwah and Wadwan which constitutes approximately 28 big villages consisting of thousands of population to reach Kishtwar. However this road was constructed for vehicular traffic also so that the people of these areas can reach Kishtwar within shortest period of time.
However, the said road was remained closed for winter season and in the summer season the said road was got opened for vehicular traffic only to provide basic road facilities to the people of residents residing in the areas of Tehsil Marwah and Wadwan. It was further stated that prior to construction of the road the people of Tehsil Marwah and Kishtwar had to travel all the way from Anantnag, Banihal, Ramban and Doda Highway after covering at least 400 km to reach Kishtwar which by contraction the Sinthan Kishtwar Road has cover only a few hour to reach Kishtwar and the distance is reduced by half.
The petitioner stated that due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Sinthan- Kishtwar Road is closed during the summer season also without any justification and with the closure of the road, has undoubtedly brought umpteen problems especially for the poor and downtrodden section of people residing in these areas.
