Four killed, four injured in militant attack in Sopore

BARAMULLA, June 12: Four people including two cops and two civilians were killed while two cops and two civilians were also injured after militants attacked a police party that was deputed on Covid-19 duty near main Chowk of Sopore town in this north Kashmir district.
A top police official said that the two policemen and two civilians were killed and four others including two cops and two civilians were injured after militants carried out a major attack on the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and police party near main chowk of Sopore town. The policemen killed in the attack have been identified as Showkat Ahmad S/o Abdul Gani Parray R/o Goripora Beerwah of Budgam district and Constable Waseem Ahmad S/o Mohammad Sadiq Bhat R/o Narbal Srinagar. Locals identified the two slain civilians as Manzoor Ahmad Shalla of Shalimar Colony Sopore and Bashir Ahmad of Mahrajpora Sopore.
Sources said that among the injured cops, Mukesh Kumar has been referred to Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment and another injured police personnel identified as SPO Danish and two civilians were immediately removed to the nearby hospital for advanced treatment.
Hospital authorities also confirmed that two cops and two civilians were killed while four others were injured in a militant attack. Soon after the militant attack, a joint team of security forces, including Army, Police, SoG, CRPF launched a massive cordon and search operation in the area to nab the attackers.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the militant attack and expressed condolences with the bereaved families. Strongly condemn the terror attack on civilians and security personnel at Sopore, Baramulla. “My sincere condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones in this attack”, praying for the early recovery of the injured,” LG tweeted on his official handle.
Meanwhile various politicians including former Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, PC chief Sajad Gani lone and Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari expressed shock and grief over the loss of lives in Sopore attack and condemned the attack.
They termed the attack most gruesome and heart wrenching and expressed their sympathies with the deceased families.
