Early Times Report

Jammu, July 19: Kalakote Sub Division of Public Works (R&B) Division Nowshera has registered very poor performance in completion of works executed under its jurisdiction, as many roads despite work orders issued two years back, are yet to be blacktopped.
Advocate Vinod Sudan, a youth leader of Kalakote informed Early Times that work on four Kilometre long Baragoa-Tattapani road was executed in November 2016, but till date blacktopping has not been done.
“Earth and metal works of the road was completed in 2019, and tenders for the blacktopping works was also allotted to contractor two and half year ago, but the work didn’t commence,” he said, adding that if the works is completed around 450 families of the area would get road connectivity.
“This road will also reduce at least 10 kilometres distance between Kalakote to Tattapani. Development of Tatapani town comes under Rajouri Development Authority (RDA), due to a popular hot water spring in the town, thousands of people visit the town in winter to take bath in the spring”, Sundan said, adding that it is believed that people get rid of joint pain and other ailments after taking bath in the spring.
“The existing road that connects Khargala-Tattapani is very narrow, and it is very difficult to pass if any vehicle comes from opposite directions, many people have lost their lives in road accidents on this stretch (Khargala-Tattapani). In 2016, the foundation stone of the road was laid by the local MLA and Minister Er. Abdul Gani Kohli”, he said, adding that nothing happened after that.
Executive Engineer, PWD Division Nowshera, Bikram Singh told Early Times that black topping works would start after the rainy season.
“I’m aware of the delay, I have directed the concerned contractor to complete the work as soon as possible, execution of black topping works during monsoon is a wastage of funds, so work will start after once the rainy season is over,” he added.
