Early Times Report

Jammu, July 19: Notwithstanding tall claims of those at the helm of the affairs, unemployment is emerging as a serious challenge in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Instead of formulating a comprehensive policy to create job opportunities for unemployed youth of J&K, those at the helm of the affairs are indulged in rhetoric just to befool the younger generation.
As per data tabled in the Lok Sabha today, there is not a big change in employment scenario during the last couple of years.
In a written reply to the question of Sunil Kumar Mondal and Pratap Rao Jadhav, Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Bhupinder Yadav informed that the Government of India has taken a number of initiatives for promoting employment generation in the country. Aatmanirbhar Bharat Rojgar Yojana (ABRY) has been launched from October 1, 2020 to incentivize employers for creation of new employment along with social security benefits and restoration of employment. In the written, it is clearly mentioned that in Jammu & Kashmir unemployment rate which was 5.4 is now 5.1 which means there is not differences during the recent years.
The J&K authorities do not have any employment policy to address the problem of unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources said that J&K authorities do not have an exact number of unemployed educated and uneducated youth in the Union Territory.
The unemployment exchanges have become defunct because the unemployed youth have lost all hopes due to prevailing anarchy in the UT.
According to the data prepared by Employment Department a couple of years back, J&K had 82,395 registered unemployed educated and uneducated youth, apart from around two lakh unorganized workers and 55,000 youth registered under the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-Dhan scheme.
Sources in the Department said the number of unemployed youth could be much higher as the process of registration with the employment department was voluntary and not mandatory
