| BJP Sarpanch, his wife shot dead in South Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
Anantnag, Aug 9: Terrorists on Monday afternoon shot dead a Sarpanch and his wife from Kulgam, presently living in Lal Chowk area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Officials said that BJP Sarpanch Ghulam Rasool of Redwani Bala, and his wife Jawhara Banoo were fire upon by suspected militants in Mehman Mohallah locality area of Anantnag where the couple was living in a rented accommodation. The crime spot is just few meters away from the office of Deputy Commissioner Anantnag. Soon after the incident, security forces led by IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar visited the residential house. After IGP’s spot visit, the bodies were lifted and shifted to Government Medical College. Security forces immediately cordoned off the area to nab the attackers. Additionally, the J&K Police has suspended a policeman who was deployed with the Sarpanch as his Personal Security Officer (PSO). Several Leaders inclduing for mer Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Omar Abdullah and others including BJP leaders condemned the killing of Sarpanch and his wife and termed it ‘brutal’. |
