Endgame: Selling MBBS seats proves last nail in Hurriyat coffin
8/22/2021 11:40:45 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 22: Even as New Delhi is all set to ban both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference in Jammu and Kashmir, the “sale of MBBS seats” has proved the last nail in the coffin of the separatist conglomerate.
Highly places sources told Early Times that the Hurriyat would be banned soon and that the recent raids of the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Hurriyat leaders, who were caught selling MBBS seats in Pakistani medical colleges proved “more than enough for the ban.”
While the Hurriyat is set to be banned with the evocation of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act or the UAPA, the intelligence agencies have got access to enough evidence for a strong case against the Hurriyat leadership of both the factions.
A senior official said the money collected from sale of the medical seats was used for terror funding and to promote anti-India sentiment, and that the police have access to clinching evidence. For the Hurriyats, the Pandora’s box opened on August 18, when the Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing of the J&K Police arrested six persons including separatist leader Zafar Akbar Bhat and a woman from north Kashmir's Baramulla in a case registered in July 2020 in connection with the alleged racket of selling Pakistan-based MBBS seats and of other professional courses by Hurriyat leaders and using part of the money generated for militancy. The CIK identified the arrested persons as Muhammad Akbar Bhat alias Zaffar Bhat, Chairman Salvation Movement, son of Abdul Jabbar, resident of Usmania Colony Baghi-Mehtab in uptown Srinagar, Fatima Shah, wife of Nisar Ahmad Shah of Palhalan, Pattan in north Kashmir's Baramulla, at present 172, Nundreshi Colony near Sham Lal Pump, Bemina in Srinagar and others.
The CIK said that Police Station CIK in Srinagar had information through reliable sources "that several unscrupulous persons including some Hurriyat leaders were hand in glove with some educational consultancies and are selling Pakistan-based MBBS seats and seats in other professional courses in various colleges and universities".
When contacted a senior official told Early Times that the Hurriyats would be banned within days and that the case has got a “go ahead” from the Union Home ministry.
“Hurriyat will be history within days,” he said.
