Jammu, Aug 28: As many as fifty shops allegedly constructed illegally on the government land at Jourian falling under Akhnoor area have triggered resentment among the people and they are demanding that the matter should be probed.
According to sources, the representative of that area in connivance with government officials and municipal committee has constructed more than 50 shops illegally under Khasra No 60 at Jourian town.
Sources said that government land worth crores was given to the refugees under Khasra No. 60, where it was allotted by the government for renting cultivation. No one is expected to build on that land, but a elected representative of that area is taking full advantage of his position and officials of the Revenue Department and Municipal Committee are ostensibly hand in glove with him. “The officers of Revenue Department have shown a piece of land where the shops have come as barren and that land has been grabbed,” sources alleged. “It’s a big scam and needs to be investigated. Employees of the Revenue Department are involved in this scam,” they alleged further.
“These allegations have brought the Tehsildar office and the Municipal Committee Jourian under the scanner as most of the land in the Jourian area is the state land, on which construction is not allowed,” sources said.
“A public representative, who was elected by the people to resolve their problems, along with some officials is misleading the government,” they added.
Locals alleged: “The municipal committee has become a hotbed of scams in our area. The administration should take action against the officials who are involved in this scam.”
They urged the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene and get the alleged scam of illegal constructions probed.
This correspondent sent a detailed text message to District Development Commissioner (DDC), Jammu on WhatsApp to seek his comment. But there was no response. |
