Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 29: Due to COVID 19 pandemic, many people kept away from the hospitals. The issue has been bigger for people who had to travel miles to the metro cities to seek primary consultation from experts.
Consequently timely diagnosis, preventive care and treatment for chronic diseases like cancer and kidney has seen a massive decline.
Even amidst COVID 19, Apollo has always been on the forefront of delivering quality healthcare despite geographical boundaries, In continuation to this effort Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals organised a super speciality OPD in Jammu for chronic diseases like cancer and kidney related ailments under the supervision of Dr Sameer Kaul, Senior Consultant, Clinical Oncology and Dr Sandeep Guleria, Senior Consultant, Kidney Transplant Surgeon.
Dr Sameer Kaul, Senior Consultant, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals said, “With the onset of Covid-19, there has been a decrease in patients coming in for preventive check-ups of chronic diseases.
There has been a rise in number of patients coming in with advanced stages of cancer, delay in diagnosis is one of the key contributing factor here.
We at Apollo have always emphasised on the importance of early diagnosis and to ensure this we have been conducting specialised OPDs across various regions of the country.
With this OPD at Jammu we intend to help patients get specialised consultation without having to travel miles to the metros for basic primary level consultations.”
Dr Sandeep Guleria, Senior Consultant, Kidney Transplant Surgeon, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals said, “Due to the ongoing pandemic, patients with chronic kidney related ailments have delayed and ignored their regular consultations. Delay treatment for such diseases can be life threatening, hence with these specialised OPDs we intend to reach and provide timely medical assistance to every patient who might be hesitant to travel.”
Though there is transition in the entire healthcare sector due to the pandemic, it is required by the patient that they should go for primary healthcare consultation.
Patients suffering from such diseases should step out of their homes or seek doctor’s consultation.
The delay in timely diagnosis and treatment can be life-threatening.
