DB directs govt for early rehabilitation of Saddal inhabitants

JAMMU, Sept 3: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by the displaced inhabitants of village Saddal in tehsil Mongri of Udhampur district, which was devastated due to landslide in the year 2014, a Division Bench (DB) of Jammu & Kashmir High Court Comprising Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Sanjay Dhar directed to ensure that the rehabilitation work is completed as early as possible.
When the PIL came-up for hearing, Division Bench after hearing Adv Deepika Mahajan appearing for the PIL whereas AAG Aseem Sawhney appearing for the UT administration observed that it is submitted that the Government has come up with a policy decision to rehabilitate them in village Mansar and that some land for each family has been earmarked but somehow the rehabilitation process could not be completed.
AAG Aseem Sawhney appearing for the respondents submits that the work is in full swing and only small things like electrification etc. remains to be completed and he, therefore, prays for and is granted a month's time to file fresh status report.
DB directed to ensure that the rehabilitation work is completed as early as possible.
DB further said that AAG Sawhney shall also inform if the benefits under the State as well as centrally sponsored schemes have been extended to these families.
