Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 3: Demand for declaring Maharja Hari Singh’s birthday as a holiday is gaining momentum in Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
“We strongly demand declaration of holiday on Maharaja Hari Singh birthday which falls on 23rd of September every year in J&K and Ladakh UTs. It was due to efforts of Maharaja Hari Singh the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir acceded to India when he signed the instrument of accession on October 26, 1947,” said Mandeep Singh, of Jammu.
He lauded the great Dogra ruler for his contributions in development, social, progressive and economic reforms done during his regime as a ruler of J&K and for the welfare of the J&K people.
“Maharaj Hari Singh was one of the far-sighted and progressive ruler in India. The sentiments of J&K people are associated with the Maharaja Hari Singh. BJP should clear its stand, which was in favour of declaration of holiday on his birthday but several birthdays have passed but, BJP backed administration is silent,” said Surinder Singh and Vishal Singh.
It is very shocking that despite several protest in this connection by many social, political and all other organisations from last many years nothing has been done till date. “BJP failed to respect the sentiments of J&K and especially Jammu people and betrayed the huge mandate by not declaring holiday on Maharaja Hari Singh's birthday,” they added.
“It’s unfortunate that BJP has ignored the great role of Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh,” alleged Rajan Singh.
