Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Sept 3: The Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the only road connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, remained closed for the second day on Friday as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, the historic Mughal road and Anantnag-Sinthan-Kishtwar roads also were closed, a traffic police official told on Friday.
However, he said, hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying passengers, stranded on both sides of the Jawahar tunnel on Thursday after the traffic was suspended on the highway, were later cleared till late in the night.
He said as per directions from the administration, traffic remained suspended on the highway for the second day today. No vehicle was today allowed to leave Jammu or Srinagar. However, local traffic between Jammu and Banihal and Jammu-Doda- Kishtwar will be allowed to ply on the highway, he said.
Traffic movement on historic 86-km-long Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu region will also remain suspended today. No vehicle will be allowed from either side, he added.
No traffic movement will be allowed on Srinagar-Anantnag-Sinthan-Kishtwar in Jammu region, he said.
Traffic on the highway and other roads was suspended as a precautionary measure following the death of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Wednesday night at his Hyderpora residence.
