War against corruption: 4 Govt employees suspended, ACB catches UEED official red handed

Jammu, Sept 20: The Poonch Administration has suspended four government employees on Monday in alleged embezzlement in construction works in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Official sources said that four officials are placed under suspension in connection with alleged misappropriation and embezzlement in at least five constructions in Halqa Panchayat Gursai Moori in Block Mendhar.
They said that enquiry committee has also been constituted into the allegations.
“Consequent to the preliminary inquiry, the role (four) employees is found suspicious whereby irregularities and misappropriation and embezzlement occurred there,” read the order.
A committee comprising BDO, AE Subdivision, Surankote and SO Planning Block Mendhar has been constituted to enquire into complaint forwarded by ACB Jammu on September 14, they said.
Meanwhile, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a works supervisor of Urban Environment Engineering Department (UEED) for demanding and accepting bribe on Monday.
A spokesman of the ACB said this evening that ACB received a written complaint that in connection with running a Guest House at Munwarabad Srinagar the complainant has been asked by the Pollution Control Board (PCB) Srinagar to get No Objection Certificate (NOC) from UEED, Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) Brarinumbal Srinagar.
While approaching UEED office for the NOC, Works Supervisor identified as Bashir Ahmad demanded Rs 7,000 for issuing the NOC in favour of the complainant. However, on receipt of the complaint, a case FIR No.27 of 2021, under section 7 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered in Police Station ACB Srinagar and investigation was taken up.
During the course of investigation, a trap team was constituted. The trap team laid a successful trap and caught the Works Supervisor Bashir while demanding and accepting bribe amount of Rs 7000 from the complainant.
The amount of bribe was recovered on the spot from Bashir who was arrested. After the arrest searches were also conducted in the premises of the accused, he said adding further investigation is in progress.
