JU organises Gender Sensitization Workshop for Research Scholars

Jammu, Sept 29: Under the Gender Sensitization Workshop Series, the Centre for Women Studies, University of Jammu organized a workshop for the Research Scholars of various Departments of the University of Jammu. Prof. Deepsheekha Kotwal, Former Head, Department of English, University of Jammu & Former Dean and Head School of Languages, Central University of Jammu and Dr. Gita Chadha, Former Chairperson, Women Development Cell & Faculty, Dept of Sociology, University of Mumbai, were the Resource persons. The workshop began with a welcome address by Prof. Vishav Raksha, Director, Centre for Women Studies, University of Jammu. She introduced the Resource persons and spoke about the objective of conducting such a workshop.
Prof Rajni Dhingra, Dean Research Studies, in her opening remarks expressed her sense of satisfaction with the participation of the research scholars across departments and appreciated the effort of the centre in organising this workshop. She paid tribute to the late Kamla Bhasin a Feminist Activist who passed away recently. She also emphasised the importance of gender sensitisation and asked scholars to participate in such activities regularly.
Prof Deepsheekha Kotwal, one of the key speakers, spoke about the need for gender sensitization and also highlighted the other related concepts like stereotypical roles, women identity, mobility and expression etc. She also averred that gender roles are actually essential life skills. Further, she suggested various ways to tackle the challenges and stressed the use of gender-neutral language to develop a sense of equality.
