Dengue patient from Sunderbani dies, cases swell

JAMMU, Sept 29: Jammu and Kashmir has reported first death due to dengue while the cases have also started swelling across the Union Territory.
"The first death due to dengue from Sunderbani area of Rajouri district was reported on Tuesday as the patient was undergoing a treatment for the same in Punjab," a health official here said on Wednesday.
He said at the same time, 62 new cases have also been registered this month so far.
"With COVID pandemic, the rising cases of dengue is a worry," he said adding, "as many as 84 people have been diagnosed for dengue so far this year and most of them are residents of Jammu district."
"In total, 27 cases are such that have been registered in private labs. Others have been reported in the government hospitals," said an official.
Till last month, dengue was confirmed in only 22 people.
"Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts are the most affected in Jammu division," he said, adding that last year, only 37 cases of dengue were reported in Jammu and Kashmir, but this year double cases have been registered.
"The concerned agencies like Jammu Municipal Corporation, Pollution Control Board and others, have started exercise of fumigation in various districts," he added.
