GDC Vijaypur observes World Heart Day

JAMMU, Sept 29: Every year, September 29 is observed as World Heart Day to raise awareness of Cardiovascular diseases, heart diseases and stroke. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 17 million people die from heart disease worldwide every year. The major cause of these fatalities is coronary heart disease or strokes. The day is celebrated to make individuals aware about prevention and control of Cardiovascular diseases (CVD). GDC Vijaypur commemorated the day by organising awareness campaign and taking pledge to take care of one's heart which beats every second keeping an individual alive by adopting healthy life habits and avoiding negative things that cause stress and anxiety.
Prof. Poonam Kundan (Convenor-Ecoclub and Head, Department of Environmental Sciences) coordinated the awareness campaign and said that as the world is struggling to fight Covid-19 and we all are much aware of the importance of our and our loved one's health. She further explained that smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, stress etc. are various causes of cardiovascular diseases and we should focus on the various preventive measures by eating a healthy diet, saying no to tobacco and getting plenty of exercise.
