Senior Citizens Welfare Council celebrates World Elder’s Day

JAMMU, Oct 1: All J&K Senior Citizens Welfare council celebrated 1st October 2021 as World Elder’s Day in a modest way. The day was celebrated, while keeping in view of the current COVID-19 SOP guidelines. The participation of the audience was restricted within permissible limits.
Vivek Sharma, Director Social Welfare Department consented to be the chief guest and Amresh Khajuria President SOS Balgran graced the occasion as guest of honor. Manjit Singh President of the council gave a brief history and importance of World Elders’ Day and the activities of the council during the past decade. Singh said that World Elders’ Day was recognized by United Nations in the year 1990 and is celebrated every year globally on 1st October.
Singh along with other speakers on the occasion highlighted the importance of World Elders’ Day and the need to provide sense of dignity, respect, healthy society, and other mental and social responsibility towards senior citizens.
Life time achievement award and a citation was presented to Nirmala Chatoo, the patron of the council for her outstanding and devoted social services and contribution to the council.
