Early Times Report

Rajouri, Oct 1: Showing total disrespect to the handicapped, the Social Welfare Department (SWD) Rajouri is allegedly following a biased policy in distributing tricycles among the deserving persons.
Sources told Early Times that an applicant was denied benefit even after four years of submission of the application. Shockingly, the department claimed that it had not received any application.
“There are many applicants from border areas near LOC, who had applied for the benefit under the government's scheme but have not been provided with the tricycles even after many years,” sources said, adding, “Whenever there is a visit of any senior officials in the district, department organises a function to handover tricycles but most of the beneficiaries in the list are their own people. Residents of far flung areas are left out,” they alleged.
Giving details of one such case, sources said that there was a poor person from village Chatyar of Rajouri near LOC, who had applied for a tricycle in 2017, even after passing of four years he has not been provided it. “He made a number of rounds in the office but every time he was sent back,” they alleged, demanding an inquiry into the matter.
When Early Times contacted the Director Social Welfare Jammu, she listened to the matter patiently and sought some time to inquire about it from the district officer Rajouri. After a few days, she responded and said that her district officer had informed that no such application was received by the department.
The Director assured that she would look into the matter personally. She further said that she would take all necessary steps to streamline the system so that deserving people get the benefits of various schemes. She said that any applicant can apply online directly to the head office Jammu.
