CLUJ appeals protesting students to call off agitation
10/1/2021 11:34:32 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Oct 1: With the ongoing protests at Cluster University of Jammu (CLUJ) refusing to be diffused, CLUJ administration urges and appeals to the protesting students to call off their agitation and asks them to allow the normal functioning of academic and administrative activities in the university. The appeal from CLUJ administration comes days after the students went to continue their protest at the University for fulfillment of certain demands. The protest is on the alleged inadequate intake capacity of the constituent colleges which refrains aspiring students to seek admission to the varied undergraduate courses in the colleges. It is informed that the constituent colleges of the university have an intake capacity of about seven thousand seats inclusive of all categories which is in accordance to the UGC guidelines as per the existing infrastructure and faculty. It is pertinent to mention that the increase or decrease in the intake capacity of seats is not in the hands of the university and requires a lot of planned meticulous mechanism. It is further informed that the admission process is entirely on merit basis, both in open and other categories and university is working effortlessly to accommodate students within its limits. The students also demand conduct of supplementary examination of 1st and 3rd semester examination which is strictly against the provision of university statutes that only allows supplementary examination of 5th & 6th semesters. They have been repeatedly asked to fill revaluation forms and the examination wing shall have the answer scripts re-evaluated on priority. A meeting in this regard was held by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu with the agitating students and University Administration wherein the students were again advised to fill revaluation forms and were further assured for a speedy declaration of their results. Subsequently, they were also assured that the offline examination of these students shall be conducted separately at the earliest as per their demand in case of delay in the end semester examination of 1st and 3rd semesters enabling these students to pursue their further studies on time. The agitating students who had agreed for the conduct of offline examination started pressing the university administration for immediate online examination which is against the university norms. It matters concern that such kind of protests are not in the welfare of the university, they not only tarnish the image of Cluster University of Jammu but also affect the normal functioning of the university administration and academia. University administration once again appeals to the protesting students to call off their agitation and requests them to respect the UGC guidelines and University Act and Statutes and also allow the normal functioning of the University. University also appeals to all the stakeholders- guardians of the students and opinion makers of the civil society to cooperate with the University for the timely commencement of the new academic session.
